We use garden sculptures and statuary to create interest in our garden and to please our visual view of the surroundings that we call home. After all, no garden is complete without some form of statuary or ornament that instills color and a focal point to a section or against the overall picture of the garden landscape. However, what do garden sculptures essentially do to a garden? – How do we expand the interest and visual enjoyment of garden statues without seeming too outlandish or out of place?
Here are a few simple steps that we suggest:
1. Choose the Appropriate Size of the Sculpture
If you are looking for a garden sculpture that adds an impression against the overall landscape, then you might consider large to life size statuary. Otherwise, small garden statues and sculptures can set an impression for a localized section of your lawn and garden when used creatively. A small bust or figurine interspersed with the greenery can do so much in resulting in a pleasant surprise and a smile.
2. Use Garden Statues to Emphasize Sections of Your Garden
These days solar statues are becoming an interest with gardeners and you can add them to a pathway or driveway to create a focal point. You can also use statues to draw interest of your guests to a swimming pool, a beautiful floral bed you wish to show off or the marble tiled courtyard. Or engage the use of an attractive sculpture that draws an element of surprise to the beauty behind it which may be a lovely deck or a patio. Garden statues placed in strategic locations, offer a break and surprise to what lies ahead.
3. Choose the Right Kind of Sculptures
Do not mix an abstract form of sculpture with that of a classical. It will do too much injustice to the beauty of the sculptures! Instead, design a theme for your garden then select the right king of statues that supplement the character of that desired look. A lovely life size Hebe statue will do beautifully near a pool side while an abstract form of figure can seamlessly fit into a garden that loves the modernistic touch. And if you are an animal lover, do not clutter too many kinds of animal statues in the same location – they will destroy the look of the place, steal the significant importance of each statue and compete for too much attention.
4. Choose Sculptures That You Can Relate To
This is probably one of the more telling suggestions we can offer. We feel that garden statues are a private addition to a garden and must make the homeowner feel good and happy about its presence in the garden. Do not use something obtrusive and impersonal; rather choose sculptures that make you happy. Perhaps, the look of a lovely dog sculpture might strike a smile about the dog you love so much or a child statue holding a dog may draw your interest or joggle a happy memory that you simply adore.
Create an impact with the use of garden sculptures to the garden. Add them to elicit drama and visual impact. Most importantly, they must seamlessly mesh into the overall structure and design of the garden. After all, the garden is your personal place of refuge and sections of the garden which can be highlighted could be done so with the use of garden sculptures and ornaments that enhance the overall visual view of your landscape. Happy planning with your sculptures!
